This striking charger is made from a grogged black stoneware clay and decorated with a white, hand carved sgraffito decoration. The Octopus motif in this collection was inspired by the Minoan vases in the British Museum. Carved areas are covered in a glossy transparent glaze, while the main body of the piece has been left unglazed apart from the addition of a bronze 'beading' around the edge. The tentacles of the octopus extend beyond the main body of the platter to form two handles with which the charger may be carried.
