This unique item was part hand built, part thrown, from stoneware clay. The elegant neck of the bottle vase rises up from a slab constructed body. The surface decoration has involved the freehand carving of cobalt oxide coloured slip (liquid clay painted on the surface of the unfired object). This technique is known as sgraffito.  Each of my ceramic pieces are entirely unique. On this vase swimming Koi carp create a sense of movement around an otherwise solid and symmetrical form. Measures 35cm.
